Cape Point Nature Reserve

Cape Point is a spectacular place to visit and the tourist facilities are well established. After paying your entrance fee, a gorgeous drive takes you to the parking lot, where you must disembark.

From here, you can choose to either walk up the steep slope to the lookout point, or pay a bit more to ride the ‘Flying Dutchman’ funicular. Once at the top, a paved promenade leads to the tip of the headland and the most panoramic views. An upmarket seafood restaurant and ritzy Curio Shop will complete the experience for those with cash to spend, but rest assured that the fresh air and wheeling sea birds are free.

Cape Point is surrounded by protected land, now united with Table Mountain under the banner ‘Table Mountain National Park’, and this delicate ecosystem can be explored on foot through the aegis. There are also several side-roads in the Cape Point Nature Reserve, which lead down to secluded bays and open stretches of barren beach.

Check at the gate about the condition of the roads, and ask which ones are open to the public at the time. If you have a valid Wild Card, entrance to the reserve is free.
