While working as a game ranger in South African wildlife parks, the sculptor gathered the information he needed to recreate the essence of a Sunbird drinking from a stream.
Studying wild animals gave the artist insight into the behaviours and attitudes of many species; he cast the bird in bronze and captured its likeness without exhibiting the recognisable colouring of a Sunbird. A textured aesthetic and the energy stored in the bent branch give the piece a realistic finish.
