The Addo Elephant National Park is home to what is said to be the highest density of elephants in a single area worldwide.
The famous Big 5 share the reserve with many different kinds of buck, as well as two types of zebra, spotted hyenas, buffalo and black rhino. It’s a bird watchers paradise with viewing from the river in a canoe as well as bird spotting on guided walks.
Hike to the nearby waterfall and in addition to the extensive birdlife there’s a chance to see some of the smaller members of nature, including the flightless well-loved Dung Beetle. Game drives into the reserve with experienced guides take place in the morning and afternoon, these last about 4 hours. Your guide will be able to relate the history of the park – from the original 11 elephant in 1931 to the extensive population today. You may also be fortunate to see the more recently introduced lions.
Here, you can indulge in gourmet breakfasts with homemade breads, fruit in season and other delicacies. Weather permitting, lunch may be served at the pool, on the veranda, or even a picnic on the riverbank!

An evening drive can be booked, followed by a starlight braai (barbeque) in the boma. Bird watching on a bush hike or whilst paddling in a canoe on the Sundays River followed by a riverbank picnic, should be a highlight for bird watchers.
Within the Camp Figtree Lodge eco reserve, you can to take leisurely sundowner walks, a mountain bike ride and night sky telescopic explorations with an astronomer in attendance.
