The scenic Ithala Game Reserve in Zululand, KwaZulu-Natal.
Zululand is a district in KwaZulu-Natal that extends from Richards Bay up the northern coast and inland towards the heart of KZN. It reaches further north to the town of Pongola, and includes Ulundi and Vryheid (which borders the Battlefields Route).
The best way to explore the Zululand region is by taking Route 66 - it links many small, scenic towns, so there are plenty of opportunities to explore beautiful landscapes, go on cultural tours and drive along splendid beaches.
Zululand is home to authentic Zulu villages where visitors can experience traditional Zulu culture and lifestyle. The region also offers various parks and nature reserves where you can spot wildlife and enjoy the incredible natural beauty of KwaZulu-Natal.
Ulundi is the capital of Zululand and lies in the hub of the old Zulu Kingdom. Here, the KwaZulu Cultural Museum houses interesting displays relating to Zulu history and archaeology with the beehive huts and the layout of the original Zulu village having been faithfully reproduced.
