Wine and Agricultural Ethical Trade Association (WIETA) uses auditing results to flag risks and create plans to remedy the identified situations. A client is consulted once a risk is identified, with WIETA aiming to assist with the identification of viable corrective measures and in connecting clients with relevant systems and parties to create short and long term successes.
The Wine and Agricultural Ethical Trade Association runs five ethical programs to address critical gaps in ethical work systems on farms and cellars. These programs can be implemented as a whole or individually based on the needs of the system on the farm or cellar.
The first program is focussed on wellness, comprising remedial support programs to address community, social and psychological problems that impact the business. The second is an ethical leadership and management program, aimed at better equipping workers in management and leading positions for their task.
The Healthy Communication and Relationship program aims to equip workers with effective communication and negotiation skills to improve conflict management, reduce negative behaviours and outcomes, and ultimately result in a better work environment.
The Decent Workplace program focuses on health and safety for all and the creation and support of a fair and equitable work environment.
The On Farm Community program is designed to start a process where all players are able to identify their needs and start working towards a stronger community. This is important as many of South Africa’s workers and their families live on farms, and on-farm communities have a huge impact on the culture and wellbeing of a farm.
