The Illovo beach and lagoon are ideal spots for adventurous types - you can kayak, canoe, water-ski, fish, surf or swim the pristine waters of the warm Indian Ocean. Take the little ones and enjoy a day out by the beach with your bodyboard or your boat for some fishing.
The Gwahumbe Reserve is in close proximity to Illovo, so if you are a keen mountain biker, head over to the reserve for a fun crank. It is an 18 km, fully marked mountain bike trail with superb singletrack and the chance of viewing wildlife and an abundance of bird life.
The Amanzimtoti Bird Sanctuary is also in driving distance of the town, so if you are a nature enthusiast with a keen eye for birding, you will love the indigenous lush forests, gardens and hundreds of twittering birds around you.
There is an effortless 30 minute self-guided trail that winds itself through the forest and is a haven for birdlife, so you will have ample opportunities to spot birds like the resident Spurwing geese, White faced duck, Greenback heron, Giant kingfisher and Hamerkop.
