Game Drives
Traverse the 14,000 hectares in search of buffalo, jackal, elephant, hippo, cheetah, rhino, warthog, zebra, giraffe, hyena, crocodile, and a spectacular variety of superb birdlife.
Game drives head out in the morning and evening. Game drive stops are the high points of any safari, whether it’s sunrise tea and homemade biscuits or sunset wine, with biltong and tangy olives.
Bush Walks
Walking in the bush gives you the opportunity to experience Africa from the ground, in the safe hands of your tracker-guide. This is your chance to go looking for South Africa’s other famous five- the Little Five (elephant shrew, rhino beetle, leopard tortoise, ant lion and buffalo weaver).
Bush walks allow you to really feel the bush rather than simply observe it. You’re right in the animals’ domain, experiencing the world on their terms. It’s really quite something!
Wildlife Photography Course
Thanda’s resident wildlife photographer, Christian Sperka, is an expert in the art of catching the perfect moment. In a 90-minute session, he’ll teach you how to set up your digital camera for wildlife photography and introduce you to motion photography - the best way to capture wildlife on camera.
Zulu Village Tour and Boma Dinner
At this wildlife safari lodge cultural tours of the local Zulu village will give an in depth view on local customs and traditions. The tour includes a visit to the training school of a sangoma (traditional healer), and to interact with Zulu herdsmen. You will also learn about King Shaka and explore the Zululand battlefields.
Hippo and Croc Cruise
Why not try out a boat cruise while you are staying at Thanda Safari Private Game Reserve? On this two-hour interactive boat trip up the St. Lucia Estuary, you can spot hippos wallowing in the water and lazy crocs sunbathing on the banks.
Your knowledgeable ranger-guides will be on hand to answer your questions, and to point out unusual sights as you sail through the water. After the cruise, you can explore St. Lucia town and its surrounds, which offers walking trails, bird watching sites, deep sea fishing and exceptional local seafood restaurants.
Thanda Spa
There are two unique spas at the private game reserve to help you relax and enjoy some pampering. The signature treatments are a combination of western techniques and ancient Zulu holistic practices - learnt from traditional Zulu women, to massage, soothe and heal.
Other spa treatments, include a choice of facials, massages, reflexology, body treatments, hydrotherapy treatments, waxes, manicures and pedicures.

On the Junior Rangers Course they'll learn about game tracking, game spotting, spoor identification as well as bird and plant life. At the end of their stay, they will receive a Junior Ranger Certification from Thanda.
