Steytlerville is a small town in the Eastern Cape, South Africa. It is situated on the Groot River and near the Winterhoek Mountains in the Sarah Baartman District. Its surrounding Baviaanskloof Wilderness is exceptionally beautiful and worth a visit if you want to experience the tranquility of the Karoo.
The town Steytlerville was established in 1876 and lies in a large farming area where sheep, goats and ostrich are farmed. The town has the essence of a true Karoo dorp, with its Victorian cottages and Edwardian church. It is named after Reverend Steytler who wanted to start a new Dutch Reformed congregation in the area.
