Go on a three-hour horse ride along perfect white beaches of the Walker Bay Conservancy where you can enjoy the sandy beaches and the thrill of beach canters. Starting at the Grootbos Nature Reserve, the trail runs west through the coastal shrubland and traverses the vast magical, almost surreal, sand drifts of die Plaat.
Schools of dolphins can often be seen frolicking in the waves and the area is great for whale watching during whale season that usually starts in June and carries through to December.
The Walker Bay Conservancy is a biodiversity hotspot in its own right with over 1000 plant species and six of these species which are new to science and are endemic to the conservancy. The conservancy is also home to 106 bird species, 30 mammals, 46 reptiles, 22 amphibians and a wide diversity of insects.
Back at Grootbos Nature Reserve, you can enjoy an al fresco picnic with your toes in the beach sand, sip on cocktails as you see the sun set or enjoy a uniquely South African meal in their boma.
