The Sodwana Bay Lodge lies nestled on the western shore of Lake Shazibe, surrounded by some of the world’s highest naturally-vegetated dunes.
Sand forests and fertile swamps encircle the area, home to an abundance of animal and plant species. Vast river estuaries and large lakes are full of life, providing you with many water-based game viewing opportunities.
At the relaxed accommodation on the eastern seaboard, the Big 5 becomes the Big 6 with the humpback whale spouting close to shore. Whale watching makes for one of the most popular activities at the lodge and is a favourite especially amongst foreign visitors.
Specialised bird tours can also be arranged and will provide you with valuable knowledge pertaining to bird and wildlife identification as well as the traditional Zulu medicinal uses for plants.
You will be presented with some difficult choices when it comes to dining out at the lodge. The lodge restaurant, Leatherbacks Seafood and Grill, is open for breakfast, lunch and supper and offers a diverse menu, superb service and a tranquil and friendly atmosphere. As the name suggests, seafood and meat are the stars of the show with pasta dishes, pizzas and burgers all making a special appearance.
If you are looking for a more relaxed and informal atmosphere you can indulge in a set meal at the outside Boma. The popular fully licensed poolside bar serves a large selection of cocktails, beer, wine and spirits.
The Sodwana Bay Lodge Scuba Centre provides you with a range of diving-related activities ranging from introductory dives all the way to instructor courses. Diving packages include standard dives to the magnificent Two Mile Reef with other nearby diving sites being visited regularly at a small extra cost.
Local Zulu staff members are trained from scratch by the lodge team to become the most experienced dive staff in the country, offering visitors to the relaxed accommodation on the eastern seaboard an unbeatable diving experience.
