Shingwedzi is the ultimate rest camp for a Kruger National Park safari with guided 4x4 game drives and expert-led bush walks available.
A guided game drive along the Shingwedzi River towards the Kanniedood Dam is one of the most rewarding routes to venture along. Waterbuck, nyala, kudu and elephant are just some of the animals to be seen here with an abundance of birdlife best described as prolific.
Predators on the scene often include lion, leopard and hyena, and on occasion, packs of painted pooches (African wild dogs). The open plains located just north of the Babalala Picnic Site are also a good place to witness grazers like roan, sable, tsessebe, and eland.
For a well-rounded Kruger National Park safari, guests at Shingwedzi Rest Camp can also embark on expert-led bush walks. During these excursions, you’ll follow tracks and markings, identify scat and spoor, and be thoroughly entertained with interesting anecdotes from your Shingwedzi guide. These walks last around 2,5 hours and embark in the morning.
Another great thing about Shingwedzi Rest Camp is its abundant birdlife. Lucky sightings at night include nightjars and scops owl whilst daytime regulars include Bennett's woodpecker, Natal robin, the Eurasian hobby and Giant Eagle Owl. Listen out for hornbills, starlings and weavers and expect to witness a solid bounty of waterbirds like storks close to the dam: saddle-billed, open-billed, wooly-necked and yellow-billed.
