Those embarking on a self-drive safari in Kruger Park will love that Satara Rest Camp provides easy access to a network of roads primed for game viewing.
At Satara Rest Camp you can embark on twice-daily game drives led by professional tracker-guides. Set the alarm early, and amble out on the sunrise excursion. If you’d prefer to head into the reserve a little later, book the afternoon-evening trip where you can seek out the more nocturnal beasts and perhaps even some of the ‘Shy 5’: porcupine, aardvark, aardwolf, bat-eared fox, and meerkat.
Twitchers assemble! You’re in for a real treat the wide collection of avifauna to be seen within the greater vicinity of camp. There is also rough total of three dams and six waterholes in the area luring in plenty of species, with the Blue-cheeked bee-eater in regular attendance. At night, keep an eye (an ear!) out for giant eagle, barn, scops and pearl spotted owls.
If you’re embarking on a self-drive safari in Kruger Park, Satara Rest Camp is a great place to hang up the car keys for a while. The facilities are sound, with plenty of braai and picnic areas, a pool, restaurant and café, right at your fingertips. There’s communal lounge with a TV should you like to catch ‘the game’ as well as a handy laundromat where you can wash out some of that safari dust before heading back on the road.
