Escape from Reality - Activities
Sabi Sands, Kruger National Park

There are no fences between the Sabi Sands Game Reserve and the Kruger National Park, which allows the free movement of Big Five game.

Game Viewing

Game drives are offered at dawn and dusk, allowing you the opportunity to see a diverse range of African wildlife. The late afternoon game drives are ideal for spotting some of the shy, nocturnal African wildlife, including porcupine, aardvark and Leopard. Tracking lions is easier than tracking leopards, as lions tend to be in a pride. They leave multiple sets of tracks, giving guides and trackers a better chance to stay on their trail. The prides in the area include Hilda’s Rock Pride (4 Individuals), the Sand River Pride (12 Individuals) and the N’waswintsaka Pride (20 Individuals). For a more unusual experience, try out a specialised hippo tour, and get up close to these amazing animals - it's also a good opportunity to see the lazy crocs.

Riverbank and Bush Walks

Set out on interpretive bush walks with a knowledgeable ranger - a great way to see a diverse range of bird species native to this area, including Bateleurs, Lilac Breasted Rollers and Lappet-faced Vultures. Trees also play an important role in the South African landscape. Learn more about Mopane, Red Bushwillow, and Tamboti trees and their special uses. You will no doubt become a true tree hugger after this. Walks generally take place after breakfast and last approximately 1½ to 2 hours, depending on the fitness level of guests. In summer, due to the heat, walks may be incorporated into the morning game drive before heading back to the lodge for breakfast.
