As a member of SA Fig Producers' Association, fig producers have access to annual events, agricultural seminars, expos and meetings with regards to the country’s fresh produce sector, export markets, climate and soils, conservation and sustainable farming.
They can also access the SAFPA’s database of fig recipes, which includes cooking with fresh and dried figs. The SAFPA annual newsletter is available to all members, which outlines upcoming events, new board member appointments, export statistics and new partnership proposals.
As fig farming is a difficult market to enter compared to other fresh produce markets, SAFPA aims to assist growers in any way possible. They aim to guide new farmers through irrigation and planting techniques, as well as optimum harvest times, the best local or export market to approach, and meetings with established fig farmers who can offer advice or share their knowledge. SAFPA is partnered with various exporters such as StarSouth, Yukon, re:inc and Stems, which grants members full access to the export market they desire.
Members are encouraged to submit ideas to the SAFPA regarding sustainable farming practices, new market opportunities, partnership deals and innovation in the fig industry. Together with SAFPA, fig farmers and growers have the opportunity to influence their industry and create a successful business model based on the input of all stakeholders.
