Roodepoort is a residential area located in the province of Gauteng. Its name means ‘Red Valley’ due to the rich red soil found in the area, and it is where 98% of South Africa’s gold production comes from.

During South Africa’s Gold Rush in the 19th century, Roodepoort became a hot spot for gold diggers around the country and the world. The area eventually flourished into a small commercial town as facilities were integrated to accommodate the transportation of gold.
