The small town of Richmond is situated in Central Karoo and oozes old-world charm and typical Northern Cape friendliness. It is known by locals as the 'world's best developed desert', and is a midway stopover between Cape Town and Johannesburg. 

The town was established in the 19th century and holds historical significance in terms of architecture and agriculture. It is often referred to as a Book Town making it an ideal destination for booklovers, due to the highly renowned Book Festival it plays host to, and now also includes a Film Festival.

Visitors to Richmond can expect a beautiful town with stunning Karoo scenery, with a few accommodation options available, as well as quaint little restaurants and shops.
