Rawsonville Wines

The town of Rawsonville is surrounded by beautiful vineyards and there are numerous wine farms visitors can enjoy. Rawsonville falls within the Breedekloof Wine Route (the youngest wine route in South Africa) and boasts with 22 wineries.

Avondrood Vineyards - This exquisite wine farm was turned into an estate in 1959 by owner Nicolaas Christoffel van Rensburg and his wife. The boutique cellar was established by their son Albertus after gaining experience in wine-making in America. The main grape varieties that grow on the farm are Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier, Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, Shiraz, Pinotage and Cabernet Sauvignon. Quality wines are ensured by the mountain winds and rocky soils of the valley. You can order wine from the farm, and they have beautiful accommodation options if you are looking to stay over in the area.

Deetlefs Wine Estate - This wine estate is located in the Du Toitskloof Mountains in the Breedekloof. Deetlefs was registered as an estate in 1977, and new vines were planted that started the production of their top-quality wines. The wine farm has been passed down over six generations. The estate provides visitors with a memorable tasting experience, offering wines that suits all tastes and budgets. You can select wines from their Stone Cross or Deetlefs’ range. 

Jason’s Hill Private Cellar - Located at the foot of Slanghoek Mountain, this private cellar is home to one of South African’s first woman winemaker’s, Ivy Du Toit. She and her family have been growing grapes and producing delicious wines for many years. When visiting the estate, visitors can sample the cellar’s wine in the beautiful tasting room. You can picnic on the lawns and drink in the scenic views of the Slanghoek valley. There is also a 6.5 km hiking trail on the farm.

Slanghoek Cellar - This cellar was established in 1951 and got its name from the nearby Slanghoek Mountain. The farm boasts with beautiful views of the Slanghoek valley and there are four winemakers on site. Slanghoek is best known for their red, white, sparkling, dessert wines and port. Their cultivars include Touriga Nacional, Malbec, Pinot Noir, Viognier and Novelle. You can visit the farm for a wine tasting or participate in the ‘Bottle & Blend’, where visitors can blend their own bottle of wine with the help of winemakers.
