Raisins SA Social Initiatives

Raisins SA believes in the value of the farming community and is dedicated to the upliftment of impoverished and previously disadvantaged farm workers and new raisin producers.

The raisin industry creates and sustains around 30 000 job opportunities annually, of which just over 16 000 are focused on unskilled workers. This significantly contributes to South Africa’s job creation and poverty alleviation goals for unskilled workers.

Raisins SA  enterprise development program focuses on identifying potential raisin producers of colour that have the potential to commercialise, and supports their endeavours with technical support and input costs.

Raisin SA’s skills development program consists of three pillars of field learning. Technical training is rolled out in accordance with the provisions of the Skills Development Act and aimed at skills development of new producers of colour. International exposure allows producers to gain knowledge of best practices, latest technology, and leading trends in the global context. The Tertiary Skills Development Pipeline includes providing bursaries, internships and workplace experience.

Furthermore, the organisation has directly linked their socio-economic projects to their enterprise projects to ensure they look at the entire community development, and not only from a production point of view.
