Pomegranates are versatile fruits with a number of health benefits. Known as a ‘divine’ fruit due to its mention in theological texts, pomegranates are revered for their high levels of antioxidants, anti-viral and anti-tumor properties.

Pomegranates can be consumed fresh or processed in various by-products, but ensure you digest as much of its health benefits as possible, it is best enjoyed fresh. Pomegranate juice and jam are popular products, and the fruit can be added to smoothies, salads and meat dishes as a natural sweetener. 

As pomegranates are rich in antioxidants, they protect the body from free radicals, which are responsible for premature aging. It also acts as a blood thinner, which can prevent blood clots. As the body ages, the walls of your arteries harden due to cholesterol which can cause blockage. Pomegranates’ antioxidant properties can prevent cholesterol from oxidizing and causing harm to the body.

In addition, pomegranates are known to help decrease the risk of arthritis, improve the body’s level of oxygen production and fight heart diseases. The fruit is loaded with nutrients such as vitamin C and K, as well as potassium, folate and fibre. 

Various international studies have suggested that consuming pomegranates on a regular basis can improve one’s memory, lower blood pressure and assist with digestion. Other studies have shown that the fruit can also boost immunity, lower stress levels and prevent plaque formation on teeth.
