Referred to as 'the town with two summers' because of the subtropical weather, Phalaborwa is the ideal year-round holiday destination. It is renowned as being the home of the famous African marula tree and Amarula Cream Liqueur. Tourism and wildlife play an important role in the life of this town, as it is conveniently surrounded by game farms, nature reserves, and wildlife sanctuaries. Situated in the picturesque north-eastern Limpopo Province, Phalaborwa is the Sotho word for 'better than the south'.

Phalaborwa experiences high summer temperatures, with a daily average temperature being 31 degrees Celsius. The rest of the year experiences comfortable and pleasant weather, with warm days and cool nights. There is an average annual rainfall of about 450 mm. The rainy season starts in September and lasts until April. In winter, there is little or no rain.

Phalaborwa borders the Kruger National Park, with the central business district just 2 minutes away from the Phalaborwa Gate to the Park. Since opening in 1961, the Phalaborwa Gate has served as a convenient entry point to the Northern and Southern areas of the Park and today about 200 000 visitors pass through these gates annually. There is never a dull moment in Phalaborwa, and activities abound. Enjoy horse riding safaris, game drives in the Kruger National Park, teeing off at the world-renowned Hans Merensky golf course, river safaris, microlight flights and exhilarating skydiving to name but a few.
