Enjoy a variety of mountain biking trails near Modimolle.

Seven trails, set out amidst kloofs and escarpments, are easily accessible to riders of all levels keen to crank the gorges and rocky krantzes of the Waterberg. The Kloof Trail goes up a koppie to wind around the escarpment, providing spectacular bird’s eye views once you cross the grasslands past Kaalgat Dam. The Zebra Trail starts with a mild climb up the koppie, passing over rocky terrain and grasslands atop the ridge before descending into the indigenous forest.

Skydiving

Skydive Xtreme, located at the Modimolle Airfield, is the only drop zone in the Limpopo Province, and it’s the place to go if you want to do a tandem skydive.

Tandem is the easiest, safest and most exhilarating way to experience the rush of freefall. Once you’ve listened to the short safety briefing, you are ready for take-off. Once you reach 10 000 ft, jumpers exit the plane to reach speeds of up to 200 km/h during a 35 second freefall before the tandem instructor opens the parachute at 5 000 ft. Once the parachute is open, you will continue your fun ride under canopy and gently descent down to earth.

Thaba Kwena is the largest commercial crocodile farm in the southern hemisphere with approximately 22 000 crocodiles of varying ages. A visit to the farm at feeding time is a worthwhile experience and there are usually about 250 adults and hundreds of younger crocs basking in the sun.

Guided tours are on offer, and the trained guides will be more than happy to answer all of your croc-related questions. A curio shop has a selection of gifts and frozen, vacuum-packed crocodile meat is available.
