Bring all your outdoor and water toys along. The beaches carry on forever, the water is calm and perfect for boating and Stand Up Paddle Boarding (SUP), the fishing is great and even surfers will find great breaks, especially if they head to Elands Bay, reputed for an incredible left-hand break in winter.
If you’re not a water baby, then hike, run or mountain bike along the coast towards Rocherpan, a coastal reserve 10 kilometres to the north of Dwarskersbos; it absolutely teems with birdlife. It is famous among birders with its 150 different bird species, among them large numbers of water birds.
The Dwarskersbos caravan park with its shady stands under trees, seaside bungalows and self-catering flats is quite popular, but not to worry, several other options in and around town exist. You’ll find idyllic self-catering cottages to choose from, really close to the beach, while the Rocherpan Nature Reserve also boasts with four newly refurbished eco-cottages.
Did You Know? Dwarskersbos was hit by a 6 metres high tidal wave (or rather storm surge) in August 1969! Though the wave broke through the dunes and flooded several homes, no permanent damage was done.
