Newlands, known as Cape Town’s ‘green suburb’, is located in the Southern Suburbs and is synonymous with the world of rugby and cricket. The area has beautiful views of Table Mountain, Devil’s Peak and Cape Town City Centre.
In 1696, the Newlands property grant was made so that beer could be brewed beside the ideal water provided by streams that came down from the back of Table Mountain. Today, beer is still brewed beside the Liesbeeck River in Newlands.
Newlands’ homes border the beautiful Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens, offering a stunning natural environment. The suburb is the heart of South Africa’s rugby and cricket - the Newlands rugby stadium and cricket grounds are hotspots for local and international games, and fans flock to the area for any sporting event held here. Newlands forest is a popular attraction for avid runners, hikers and cyclists looking to get out into nature.
Also to be found in Newlands is the Montebello Centre - a design centre that hosts a craft shop, a culture garden, and a restaurant.
