Mbombela, formerly Nelspruit, is the capital of Mpumalanga and the commercial and administrative hub of the Lowveld. It is situated in the lush and fertile valley of the Crocodile River, just 330 kilometres east of Johannesburg.
Not to be missed when in Mbombela is the world-famous Lowveld Botanical Garden, as well as the Reptile Park, both situated near the Emnotweni Casino. The Lowveld National Botanical Garden features many rare Lowveld species, South Africa's best collection of indigenous ferns, 500 tree species and the rare cycads for which it is famous.
The Malelane Gate of the Kruger National Park is situated about 60 kilometres away from Mbombela, offering easy access to this world-renowned wildlife sanctuary in Mpumalanga province and all its scenic and wondrous attractions. Mbombela is served by the new Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport. The Kruger National Park is undoubtedly, Mbombela’s biggest attraction.
This wildlife park was proclaimed in 1898, by then president Paul Kruger. Today, it is South Africa’s finest Game Reserve and offers a variety of tours and opportunities to witness the big five and the best of South Africa’s wildlife.
