After a scrumptious breakfast in Montagu, spend the day exploring the town and its surrounding areas. This is a village where outdoor adventure, vernacular architecture and earthy culture collide in a glorious feel-good melee.
It is no wonder Montagu has been voted ‘Dorp/Town of the Year’ by South Africans before, and visitors are sure to agree once they take in the glorious views and genuine, unhurried hospitality of the locals.
Start off your day with a visit to the nearby Protea Farm, situated in the famous KOO valley, just 29 km from Montagu. The farm is home to an abundance of proteas, as well as swimming in the lake, beautiful hiking trails as well as mountain biking. Their popular tractor excursion up the Langeberg Mountain started in 1985 and continues to delight visitors. The more adventurous guests can take their 4x4s on the mountain trails and fully experience the outdoors.
Your afternoon can be spent wine tasting at some of Montagu’s superb wineries. Montagu Cellar is situated in the heart of the town centre, and has been in operation since 1941. Montagu is known as Muscadel country, so be sure to try the cellar’s latest offerings of this sweet drink. Kleinhoekkloof Wines is another great stop, with 11 hectares under vine. They produce Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier, Shiraz, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and Pinot Noir, and offer a combination of a wine, olive and olive oil tasting.
End the day with a relaxing dinner in town before returning to your Montagu accommodation.
