Game Viewing

The territories of the reserve are diverse, providing a home to a large variety of animals including the famous Big 5. Other animal species include large antelope such as eland, blesbok and gemsbok and predators including hyena, jackal, cheetah and well over 300 bird species. 

Game drives are conducted twice-daily from the luxury game lodge in the Mabula Game Reserve. Once during the early morning and again in the late afternoon, just in time for sundowners. Take a trip up Dicks Hill providing you with unsurpassed panoramic views of the beautiful Mabula reserve below. 

If you are looking for something different to a traditional safari, why not choose to explore the beautiful surrounds of the reserve from horseback or alternatively participate in an exciting exploration of interesting trails on a quad bike. 

Set out as the sun rises for a guided walk into the South African bush veld. Stop and look at the intricate details of the various plants that are easily missed in a vehicle. See the various markings left by the wild game as they mark their territories. View the wilds from a different perspective as you reach up to where the elephants have rubbed the tree trunks smooth, and find that even on tiptoe it’s hard to reach.

Take a safari drive after dark, and search for the amazing nightlife illuminated by flashlight as you slowly drive by. Listen to the calls of the nightjars, the howl of the hyena and roar of the lion as you drive under a canopy of stars.

Bush Dining

Dining at the Mabula Game Lodge is a luscious affair with an astounding selection of sumptuous traditional South African and Indian dishes. You can enjoy a light lunch served among the grey go-away-bird on the terrace. Relish a sumptuous dinner under the stars in the lodge’s traditional South African Boma accompanied by the rhythmic beats of African dancers. Alternatively, you can also dine at the lodge’s main Ko Bojelong restaurant where an array of delicious dishes await you. 

Indulge your taste buds as you feast at the delicious buffets that cater for vegetarians and carnivores alike. Dig into an array of salads, freshly baked breads, biryanis and impala casseroles. 

To celebrate a special occasion you can have a choice of special dining venues to make your celebration one to remember. You can choose to dine under the South African sky and partake in one of the luxury game lodge’s magical bush dinners whilst dining under a 100-year-old Wild Fig Tree. Alternatively, you can host a wedding at the open air Shaya Moya with its splendid views across the plains.

The lodge offers fully-stocked bar facilities that serve a large selection of local and international beer, wine and spirits and cater for guests with special dietary requirements with prior arrangement.
