Limpopo, (formerly known as the Northern Province) borders onto Botswana and Zimbabwe in the far northern section of South Africa. It is a land of myth, legend and contrast, with an expansive swathe of bushveldt unfolding here to the south of the muddy Limpopo River’s roil. Afro-montane forest, savannah grassland and dramatic mountains rub shoulders with plunging gorges in one heck of an adventure playground. Ancient baobabs, an uncluttered skyline and thundershowers marching in across endless plains will leave you in no doubt that you’re in Africa.
Premier national parks and private game reserves are home to the largest elephant population on the continent, while lion, leopard, cheetah, spotted hyena, giraffe, eland, wildebeest and other mammals, as well as with a dazzling selection of birds and reptiles, are sure to cross your path in the wilds. Destinations not to be missed include Magoebaskloof, Wolkberg plantations, and the mythical Modjadji Rain Forest.
