Wine, Flowers and Rest

Klawer is a convenient pitstop between Cape Town and the Northern Cape. Located on the N7 highway, a good base to visit wine cellars in the area. Klawer is in the southern part of Namaqualand, a region famous for wildflowers in August and September.

The railway connection to Cape Town is located within the town, however, no passenger services exist. During the spring flower season, occasionally a ‘flower train’ is organised to bring visitors to view the wildflower spectacle. On Windhoek Farm, 7 km outside Klawer and en-route to Vanrhynsdorp, is the site of a battle between the troops of General Jan Smuts and the British in 1902. Accommodation options include a small hotel and guesthouses.
