Karoo Explorer Itinerary Day 5
Karoo Highlands Route

Day 5: Williston to Cape Town via Carnarvon

Depart after breakfast for another little Karoo gem, Carnarvon. The best way to experience Carnarvon is to take a stroll through the town, following in the footsteps of A.G. Visser, D.F. Malherbe, Franklin Sonn, the Boezak family and many more.

The Rhenish Church in Carnarvon.

Apart from the typical Karoo houses, there are many fine examples of late Victorian and Edwardian era homes and buildings. Within walking distance, you can visit all the main attractions including the municipal buildings, the corbelled house and the Museum building in Hanau Street.

Other interesting buildings include the original buildings in the first Carnarvon settlement, De Bult, the old mansions of the author and school teacher Dr. D.F. Malherbe, and the author, poet, teacher, medical practitioner and mayor Dr. A.G. Visser.

Pop into the Lord’s Kitchen for a traditionally cooked Karoo meal before you depart to Cape Town.
