The Essence of Safari - Activities
Kapama, Greater Kruger

The twice-daily game drives with experienced guides and trackers take you out into the South African bush.

Game Drives

The twice-daily game drives with experienced guides and trackers take you out into the South African bush. Here you will find an array of wild animals big and small. Get close up to the big 5, for some fantastic photo opportunities. Observe the wildlife and decipher their behaviour with the help of your guide.

Typically the game drives start early in the morning, just as the sun rises. This is the best time to see the most wildlife movement. Most of the animals seek shade during the midday sun or lie down to ruminate in shady areas for a few hours every day. This is the time to head back to the lodge for some food and relaxation.

As the day draws to a close, the animals begin to stir and generally head for the water. Your afternoon game drive coincides with this movement for some great game spotting. The elusive nocturnal animals start to wake up, as you head back to camp after sunset, there is a good chance of seeing some of them.

Bird Watching

Birds abound in and around, find a quiet spot with your binoculars, camera and bird book and you’ll be amazed at the variety of bird species you will find here.

Bush Walks

Put on your walking boots and set out on foot, with an armed ranger and tracker. Learn more about the bush and tracking. Follow the spoor of the game and see if you can determine what animal it is just from the droppings or footprint.

Learn how to distinguish the sexes without even seeing the animal. Get in close to a wild beast, and feel the thrill as you watch them without them realising that you are around, retreating silently, and leaving them undisturbed by your presence.

Spa and Wellness Centre

After all the activities of the day, you can visit the lodge’s wellness spa. Here you can enjoy a variety of soothing treatments. There are different options from half-day to all-day treatments to choose from.

Offerings include a full body massage, scalp scrubs and facials. The Wellness centre is fully kitted with top of the range equipment, a steam room and jet baths to help you to relax.

Dining

At Kapama River Lodge, there are three venue options for dining. Breakfasts and lunches are served in the enclosed dining area called the Siyata Lounge. This has large glass doors opening onto the South African bushveld.

In the evenings, you can sit around an open fire under the stars for a traditional South African boma experience. Enjoy a pan-African buffet with some South African dishes and accompaniments.

Tease your taste buds with hot chakalaka (a spicy relish) and some mealie pap (a maize dish similar to polenta). Indulge in delicious game meat, for example impala sausages and kudu stews. Vegetarians and vegans are also catered for with fresh produce from the lodge’s gardens. Alternatively, enjoy a romantic meal under the stars with your loved one, set in the dry riverbed.
