Kamieskroon

Kamieskroon may be derived from the Nama word ‘kam’, meaning two, and referring to twin peaks, while the Afrikaans ‘kroon’ could be a huge, cleft rock shaped like a crown.

After the harshness of the Knersvlakte and minimalist plains to the north of the Cederberg, the rugged outcrops rucking up along the N7 approach into the town of Kamieskroon, is a pleasure to behold.

The granite formations are bold and spectacular here to the south of Springbok, and it makes you want to get out of your car and shout at the top of your voice just to hear the echo reverberate in that quietness so specific to this part of the Northern Cape.
