Hoedspruit

Hoedspruit welcomes visitors at the foot of the Klein Drakensberg, but would probably not have existed if it wasn’t for a gatvol pioneer who called it a day at the Sandspruit River after an arduous trek in the punishing Lowveld heat.

Today, Maruleng - aka ‘The Place of Marula’ is a thriving dorp encompassed by endless grassland plains teeming with wildlife.

Visitors are generally blown away by the jaw-dropping range of activities, accommodation options, shops and restaurants in Hoedspruit. The proud old Glencoe Baobab - the stoutest and second largest of all the baobab in South Africa - has carvings dating from 1893 and 1896;

Did You Know: Hoedspruit translates to “Hate Stream”. The town derived its name from a stream of the same name where a man lost his hat.
