Hiking in Williamsburg Mountain Reserve near Uniondale.

The exquisite Williamsburg Mountain Reserve is a haven for birding enthusiasts as well as those wishing to explore the hiking trails on foot or mountain bike, fly fish for trout, or drive their highly acclaimed 4x4 routes. Embark on a unique driving experience along the beautiful and magnificent meanders of Prince Alfred’s Pass and treat yourself to a welcoming, laid-back stopover. Motor biking is also a must for an unforgettable experience at the Mountain Pastures Private Game Reserve near Uniondale.

Enjoy amazing mountain biking on The Ou Wapad trail. The 100 km Karoo to Coast Route is a no-holds-barred one-way ride from Uniondale to Knysna. It includes the notorious Ou Wapad between Uniondale and Avontuur, as well as Prince Alfred’s Pass and Kom-se-Pad through the beautiful Gouna Forest.

Once over Ou Wapad, you start cranking up the spectacular Prince Alfred’s Pass that winds its way from Avontuur all the way (not down!) to the coast. The views are awesome, and so is the monstrous 14 km downhill to Die Vlug. From here it’s into the granny-gear zone all the way to Buffelsnek, just over halfway, before banging down to Kom-se-Pad, Gouna Forest and, finally, Knysna.
