Estcourt is a town located in the KwaZulu-Natal province of South Africa. Estcourt is a gateway to the Central Drakensberg, and is mostly known for being close to the Weenen Game Reserve and Thukela Biosphere, which is approximately 100 000 hectares of bushveld and home to the elephant, white rhino, wildebeest and more.
Set against the rolling grassveld backed by Drakensberg ramparts, the Wagendrift Nature Reserve is a wonderful place to experience the environment through self-guided trails and game viewing. Wildlife is abundant in the area, and it is possible to spot eland, blesbok, oribi, hartebeest, Cape vultures, black eagles and jackal buzzards.
The rich history of the Estcourt region can be learned on guided tours of the San rock art from the Main Caves Museum. This region was also where much bloodshed between Zulu Chief Langalibalele and colonial forces occurred.
