From the earliest times, the Blouberg coastline has provided valuable seafood resources for hunting and gathering by numerous communities who walked its shores. A network of lighthouses had to be erected along this tricky coast to assist ships negotiate the stormy seas, which have caused many shipwrecks. There are plaques to commemorate some of the more famous wrecks. Today it is possible to scuba dive to some of these wrecks.

Blouberg starts some 15 kilometres from the centre of Cape Town. It is easy to access by road, take a bus or shuttle service, take a guided tour - or rent a car, and go on your own voyage of discovery!
Pristine beaches offer breathtaking views of Table Mountain and Table Bay harbour form more than 50 kilometres of this much admired region. Nature lovers will find many walking trails among the dramatic coastal rocks and dunes along the coast.
During winter and early spring, whale-watching sites are crowded with locals and visitors who thrill to the antics and displays by these huge mammals. Sports and outdoor enthusiasts will have difficulty choosing from the many attractions.
There is good surfing at Big Bay (with international competitions taking place here regularly), wind-surfing and kite-surfing at Sunset Beach and Big Bay, jet-skiing, diving, canoeing, fishing, power-boating, rubber-duck riding, water-skiing, sand-boarding, diving - the list is endless if you prefer water sports. There are also two excellent golf courses, facilities for tennis, squash, bowls, cricket, baseball, football, gym . . .If you are more adventurous, there are 4 x 4 trails and horse riding centres.
