The seaside village of Betty’s Bay is located within the most diverse botanical hotspot on Planet Earth. Located on the eye-poppingly gorgeous R44 between Pringle Bay and Kleinmond, it lies within the languid embrace of the rocky Atlantic shoreline to the south, and the rugged Kogelberg ranges in the north.
Betty’s Bay is situated within the world-famous Kogelberg Biosphere Reserve, which is the first Biosphere Reserve in South Africa ratified by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO).
The environment is fiercely protected by the local inhabitants. This beautiful drive from Somerset-West will take you into God’s Own Country, where ancient forests, tranquil estuaries, protea-clad slopes and freshwater lakes spill into the ocean and the course of the Palmiet River. Mild and temperate summer weather can be expected, as well as tempestuous winds that blast this rocky headland. The south rains for days in summer, while a north-westerly wind brings rain during the colder winter months.
