During the 1994 election campaign in South Africa, several women activists of various organisations campaigned and supported the liberation movement while the country’s first democratic election was fast approaching. Some of these women were part of the African National Congress (ANC) and used various creative means to campaign for the party’s success.

ANC Rappers

A group of ANC Women’s League were gifted musically and use the medium of rap to express their support for the party and its struggle for freedom in South African.


This group of dynamic women were part of various projects and organisations that campaign and support human rights, equality, the welfare of women and childcare. Anthea Pandy is an ANC Women’s League member and the coordinator of the Battered Women’s project.


Hajira Arnold is a member of the ANC Women’s league and activist in United Women's Congress (UWCO) and the Detainees Parent Support Committee. Begham Pandy is an activist in UWCO and the ANC Women’s League. Zubeida Byre and Mariam Jaffer are part of the ANC Women’s League.
