Manyeleti Game Reserve was originally the home of the Mnisi people, who were displaced when the land was divided up into five farms and sold off to investors. In the 1960s, these farms were purchased by the Department of Bantu Affairs and turned into a game reserve for nature lovers.

It was named Manyeleti, meaning ‘place of the stars’ in XiTsonga. After 1994, the Mnisi people initiated a successful land claim and won back rightful ownership of their ancestral land. Three exclusive concession lodges have now been established, offering guests a peaceful and luxurious stay. The reserve is now managed in collaboration with SANParks.
