The Abagold Development Trust strives to improve the lives of its community members. They focus on areas of education and training through development programmes and job creation in the Greater Hermanus area, and, in so doing, they uplift communities and assist in the development of impoverished individuals in Mount Pleasant, Hawston and Zwelihle.
Abagold has also established an Early Childhood Development Centre for the children of its employees. This development centre is integrated, multi-lingual and will support other similar centres in Zwelihle and Mount Pleasant as well.
Abagold believes that by investing in early childhood education, they can directly add to the socio-economic health of the community in the Greater Hermanus area.
Abagold directly supports initiatives to further benefit the community through maintenance programmes at Educare Daycare in Zwelihle and the EJ Lombardi Centre for the Aged in Mount Pleasant.
The Directors’ Bursar’s fund provides bursaries for seven students of the community annually. The bursaries support the students until their tertiary degrees are completed.
