The park boasts sightings of kudu, zebra, giraffe and smaller mammals, as well as predators like caracal, brown hyena, African wild dog and lions, which are kept in a separate enclosure as part of the Panthera Leo Gene Preservation Project.

This reserve has over 370 species of birds, of which 100 species are water fowl. During the peak flood season over 80 000 birds can be seen in the reserve. Guests can visit the Nylsvley Reserve on a self-drive basis, or a half day excursion can be arranged from the lodge.
