Umhlanga

Umhlanga (meaning “place of reeds” in Zulu) is an affluent holiday resort town north of Durban on the KwaZulu-Natal coast. Situated on South Africa’s east coast, Umhlanga’s beaches are washed with the warm waters of the Indian Ocean, then stretching more than 200 km to the Isimangaliso Wetland Park.

Umhlanga offers world class accommodation, tours, entertainment and nature trails, a key attraction being the Wave Park inside Gateway Theatre of Shopping in Umhlanga Rocks.

For the outdoor adventure seekers there is a wealth of activities available including surfing, deep sea fishing, dolphin viewing, scuba diving, kiteboarding, you name it! Umhlanga’s golden beaches are a playground for all ages.

Umhlanga was once a seaside resort known as Umhlanga Rocks until it merged with La Lucia in the early seventies to Umhlanga as we know it today. Since then more businesses have moved to the area along with many new residents. What was once mainly sugarcane plantations is now highly sought after real estate.
