Whale watching is a popular activity at Walker Bay Nature Reserve along the Hermanus coastline.

Walker Bay Nature Reserve boasts with a pristine stretch of beach that is perfect for any and all coastal activities. Keep a lookout for whales and the occasional dolphin frollicking in the waves - Southern right, Humpback and Bryde’s whales are always plentiful along the Hermanus coastline. The beach is a popular swimming spot as the waters are moderately warm. Walker Bay is great for fishing as well, with galjoen, kabeljou and steenbras inhabiting the area. Klipgat Cave is well worth a visit for those wanting to explore the area’s historical significance. The cave was once home to Middle Stone Age and Late Stone Age humans and is one of the most remarkable examples of early human life in South Africa. It has two chambers - the first is a rocky floor that leads to the sea, and the second is the main site of the cave. The main site features a circular broad walk with spectacular views of the Walker Bay coastline.

The 4x4 Fishing Trail is situated in the Lê Bos section of Walker Bay Nature Reserve. The route gives visitors access to great angling waters, so take along your fishing rod to stop and get the catch of the day. The trail starts at the reserve entrance (Wortelgat) and your first stop will be Die Polle, known for its abundance of marine life. The route continues to Sopiesklip - ideal for a midday picnic. Anglers can travel further along to fishing sites Groot Duifklip or Klein Duifklip.
