Bivane Dam

Thangami Game Reserve

Thangami Game Reserve is within close proximity of Vryheid and is set in the Umfolozi Valley, in the northern part of KwaZulu-Natal. The area in which the reserve is situated is rich in cultural history, as it is aptly referred to as ‘The Valley of the Kings’ due to it being ruled by the Zulu nation in the 1800’s. The reserve offers plenty of adventurous activities, including abseiling, game drives, nature walks and 4x4 trails. 

The 4x4 trails are unique routes that interlink and criss-cross around the game reserve. Each trail various in terrain, which can include river crossings, unstable rock, logs, steep incline and declines, loose sand and mud. All the trails are self-drive routes, which gives visitors time to explore the natural splendour of the reserve. 

The shortest route is 8 km and takes around 2 hours to complete, and the longest route is a 20 km long 4-hour drive. Whether you are a beginner or skilled 4x4 driver, there is a route perfect for your needs.
