Thanks to its scenic location, Randfontein is surrounded by a number of beautiful reserves and adventure trails that will satisfy both nature enthusiasts and thrill seekers.
At the heart of the town lies Randfontein Golf Club, which is a perfect inner city golfing break with a holiday-like feeling. Rated as one of the best golf courses in the country, Randfontein invites both novices and pros to go about their rounds with a sense of satisfaction.
The parkland-style course was designed by professional golfer and pioneer of South African golf course architecture Bob Grimsdell. In recent years, the course has been remodeled to introduce new holes whilst retaining Grimsdell’s original vision. Businessmen, pro golfers and weekend goers will find that Randfontein Golf Club is the ideal destination for relaxation from the bustle of city life.
Krugersdorp Game Reserve is situated on the outskirts of Randfontein and hosts a number of wildlife in a beautiful highveld setting. A little more than 40 minutes drive from central Johannesburg, the reserve is frequented by city folks looking to relax in nature for the weekend, or entertain the kids with ample sensory distractions.
The habitat is mainly grassveld with small dams and reedbeds at the northernmost end. The vast areas of open grassland in the reserve provides visitors the opportunity to observe many of the grassland species of Gauteng.
Their main attractions are found in the grassland, rocky outcrops and forest areas and include rhino, giraffe, zebra and small antelope species. Other animals that call the reserve home include jackal, hippo, black wildebeest and lions that reside in a separate enclosed area. Bushveld birdlife is abundant, so don’t forget your binoculars!
