The Drakensberg Escarpment starts in this area of mountains and many lakes and waterfalls lie throughout the valley regions. Paul Kruger was the first registered owner of much of this land and when the question is asked of, where did he hide the Kruger millions, the answer has got to be here somewhere with all the nooks and crannies of this rocky mountainous terrain.

The evergreen Sappi Forests, bushveld and luscious grass lands are home to the abundant game that roam this part of Africa. At Misty Valley Lodge you will be spoilt for choice with running trails, mountain biking, kloofing, game viewing and trout fishing.

The encompassing towns of Dullstroom, Belfast, Machadodorp and Waterval Boven are situated an easy 3hr drive from Johannesburg. This is the start of the Drakensberg Escarpment with a rich Boer War history. You can still see the gun supports carved into rocks by the ‘bitter einders’ and the well used bandwagon routes.

Don’t be fooled by the sleepy old world atmosphere and mundane grassland views from the N4; while on our doorstep, there are some stunning adventure options, such as the Num Nums’ world-class hiking trails, Roc N Rope rock climbing and The Komati Gorge, as well as the warm baths of Forever Resorts at Badplaas.
