Things to do in Dannhauser

Birding Opportunities

Dannhauser in KwaZulu-Natal offers visitors the opportunity to experience a rich and varied birdlife, in a slightly different environment. The Dannhauser Sewer filtration ponds are teeming with bird life - water and wetland birds.

There are various sewer filtration ponds around Dannhauser, home to water and wetland birds.

‘Sewer’ doesn’t sound very appealing, however it is actually a process where-by fourteen separate ponds are used to filter sewer water like a wetland, and when the water comes out the final pond it can be used for irrigation, or recycled into Dams and rivers.

Another birding venue is Tweediedale Dam, just outside Dannhauser. The Dam is a favorite weekend venue for locals and visitors from surrounding towns, and is used for picnicking, fishing and bird watching.
