It lies between the towns of Cradock and Oueenstown, and holiday makers might not think of it as a worthwhile destination. However, the town radiates charm and character that typifies the Karoo, and boasts beautiful views of the Winterberg Mountains.

Tarkastad’s surrounding farmlands play an important role in the town’s economy - cattle, sheep and an assortment of fruits are farmed in the area. It is a beautiful and small retreat from busy city life and the ideal stopover on your way to Port Elizabeth, which is just three hours away.
