Tala Game Reserve

Tala Game Reserve, in KwaZulu Natal, offers a genuine wildlife experience, without having to travel too far from Durban. This private game reserve has the advantage of being easily accessible and close, but once you arrive it feels like you are in a different world.

As Tala Game Reserve is in a malaria-free area and has no large predators it is an excellent family holiday reserve to visit. The 3,000 hectares is home to an array of mammals including buffalo, wildebeest, eland, kudu and hippo. There is a mix of acacia thornveld, open grasslands and wetlands, the birdlife here is sublime, with more than 340 species recorded.

Look for three of South Africa’s crane species, which are found in the reserve, the wattled crane, blue crane and the grey-crowned crane. Expect to be greeted by giraffe and zebra in the mornings. Enjoy the freedom of viewing wild African game on game drives or on a mountain bike. Bass fishing, catch and release, is also available for an added experience.

Tala Game Reserve offers various lodge options for accommodation and welcomes the whole family. Conferences, weddings and honeymoons are also catered for. When compared to other game reserves in South Africa, Tala seems fairly small. However, this offers guests seclusion and intimacy that is hard to come by in many game reserves.
