Rivers Edge Luxury - Activities
Sabi Sands, Kruger National Park
Two game drives are offered per day with a FGASA qualified Field Guide and an expert tracker.
Game Viewing
There are no fences between the Sabi Sands Game Reserve and the Kruger National Park, which allows the free movement of Big Five game, and all the other animals you can find in this area. The late afternoon/evening game drives are ideal for spotting some of the shy, nocturnal African wildlife, including porcupine, aardvark and leopard. Tracking lions is easier than tracking leopards, as lions tend to be in a pride. They leave multiple sets of tracks, giving guides and trackers a better chance to stay on their trail. The prides in the area include Hilda’s Rock Pride (4 Individuals), the Sand River Pride (12 Individuals) and the N’waswintsaka Pride (20 Individuals).
Riverbank and Bush Walks
For a unique experience at this modern safari accommodation in the Sabi Sands, try out a specialised bush walk or riverbank tour. Setting out from the lodge on foot will allow you to get up close to the smaller creatures that inhabit the area. A specialised riverbank option provides an opportunity to learn more about the lifestyle of the hippos that occupy the Sands River and to observe some of the lazy crocs.
Cultural Village Excursion
For a cultural experience, guests at Lion Sands can also visit Henna Pre-school. The school initially used mud-walled buildings for infrastructure and since then better facilities have been built due to Lion Sands’ involvement. You can get a glimpse into how local communities live and thrive within the reserve.
Tailormade Activities
This modern safari accommodation in the Sabi Sands offers various activities such as hippo tours, wildlife lectures, astronomy and river tours, golf at the Skukuza Golf Course, ballooning and helicopter flights can be arranged on request.
