Qunu is a small town that lies north of Mthatha in the Eastern Cape, South Africa. This charming town’s claim to fame is that it is the birthplace and the home of the legendary late president Nelson Mandela.

Qunu has a museum that pays tribute to South Africa’s ‘Father of the Nation’ that tells the life story of Mandela - the man, the political activist, the president and the philanthropist. Visitors can also pay a visit to the Mandela Youth and Heritage Centre for more on his legacy.

Qunu is a traditional town rooted in Xhosa culture. Cattle is still herded on the beautiful pastures around the area, and people still live a traditional way of life. Qunu is a great tourist attraction for those wanting to explore the Eastern Cape’s heritage. There are also numerous hiking trails in the picturesque Wild Coast region.
